BrizCATs November News

BrizCATs met on the 29th in the Innovative Space(thanks again to Amanda for organising the space for us) at QUT. The enthusiastic bunch were again glad to be connecting with like minded people who speak the same strange language of phenomenology, MIECAT and the like. We began our session with a lively discussion about our work, workshops, conferences and probably could have talked the whole time.  But we did manage to quieten the tongues and enliven the bodies with some creative movement lead by Gayle based on the work of Gabrielle Roth http://www.gabrielleroth.com/  . We then were able to remain in this embodied state and move into a process led by Cate which had us drawing and weaving nests: places to hold and nurture. This was our last ‘formal’ gathering for the year. As a group we decided with the business of the end of year that we would not meet again until the New Year. Once we get past January we reckon there might be space again for gathering and sharing more creativity, and  peer support.

Some of the ladies then ducked off to the QUT art museum for a floor talk on by Rod Pattenden re spirituality and arts (if my mind remembers correctly) and I am keen to hear about what they heard....something for the blog perhaps!

The travelling journal

The shared journal has been located amongst the business of people’s live s and is again on the move.  For those who don’t know this project began in our first gathering and is about creating a page in the journal and then sending it on to the next person on the list. If you want to be included on the list let Gayle know and she will add you in.  We have decided that the journal; will do one round of the group and then....

Guided Imagery and Music: And Other News

"It is a room that a person can only enter when they have real need of it. Sometimes it is there, and sometimes it is not, but when it appears, it is always equipped for the seeker's needs"—Dobby explaining to Harry Potter the abilities of the Room of Requirement

Saturday 3rd September, a small group of BrizCATs gathered at QUT Gardens Point in G309. Yes we found the Innovative Space and just like Harry Potter's room of requirement it provided us with the space we needed. Private, quiet, with tea and coffee facilities, and a creatively welcoming atmosphere.

Meran held the space for us as she guided us through a musical expereince and into reflective mandala making.  Thanks Meran for providing  beautiful session, and all the mats

With time for a chitter chat and refelction on our little group, we wondered
  • how else we can support each other
  • what are the possibilities,
  • what else do we want to inlcude on the blog
  • where is the journal, how is it travelling, and what are the experiences it brings
  • what next

Support and possibilities
We floated ideas around about (in no particular order) possibilities of helping each other and working together on projects, running day or weekend workshops, inviting other creative arts practitioners/therapsits to join us.

Blog
To contribute to the blog 'chatter' page you will need to be made an author. Email Gayle and she will send you an invite.

To contribute and edit other pages you will need administrative rights...(this is for the more tech savvy).  Some BrizCATs pointed out that tech stuff is not their thing: so another option for adding to the blog is to email Gayle or another Blog admin person and we can add it for you.

We wonder about putting more links to various organisations and affilitaions on the blog for easy access. We also thought we could add favourite resources, quotes etc. So send in your favourite links or ideas, or books, or quotes and lets inspire each other.

We also suggested putting up our individual business details on the blog with links to email and web pages for any surfers our there passing through and looking for practitioners. This is something we can explore?

BrizCAT Journal Project
We know the journal is out there somehwere travelling though the BrizCAT community.  We wonder if anyone can tell us where it is, how you expereinced it, or if you are still waiting in anticipation? Email Gayle your jounral news  to crisp.creativearts@bigpond.com

What Next
We have tentatively chosen the 12th November 10am-1pm as our next gathering date.  So put a date claimer in your diaries now.  Cate and Gayle have offered to facilitate the session with a bit of dance and creative arts.We will confrim this as soon as the room is booked and Cate and Gayle know more.

Up coming event to keep your eye out for

The Loop

Thanks so much for keeping me in the loop BrizCATS :)
Sorry I never made the connection on Saturday, I was busy at my first Brisbane week end workshop.
The YOGA LAUGH DRUM Workshop, held in Paddington went better than expected! 10 participants and myself. 90 minutes of yoga with live improvised music courtesy of Si Brittan (Wolphin Dhale~ The sound of art) on didge and percussion, and Alix Bidstrup (Actor/muso/creative) on keys, guitar and percussion.
The Laughter session lasted 35 minutes! Non stop laughs - such an amazing feeling of freedom and release.
The 2 hours of Drumming flew so fast, it was great fun, loud and explosive! Im sure Latrobe Terrace wondered what had hit it. (Beats me...) ;) get it...boom boom
Our next Worshop is planned for Saturday August the 25th.
STAYING YOUNG - YOGA/HEALTH & NUTRITION/CREATIVE ARTS
I am hoping to meet and re meet my fellow BrizCATS very soon.
In the meantime keep me in your LOOP, I will keep you in mine and hopefully they will intermingle ...Loopy together :)

red thread web

As I sit back now and reflect on our Saturday gathering I am feeling rather euphoric and exceptionally connected.  I am wearing my red thread and smile when I look down at my wrist: I am excited and inspired...as I feel the energy build.  Keep the thread moving outwards reaching to others. Thanks everyone
(for those of you who missed the gathering as we chatted and introduced ourselves we handed around red wool..weaving a connection...and then as we left some of us took some of the thread and wore it around our wrists. Amanda told us about the ritual of the red thread when a woman is pregnant and giving birth)
I googled 'red thread' and found that there are many references to red threads in various cultures as part of ritual and story.  As I read I found key words such as 'connection, support, blood, community'...By the way I didn't deliberately choose red wool: I just grabbed it at the last minute as I wondered how we might organise a meeting. I like that.

BrizCATs are excited

BrizCATs
Wow what an excited bunch of CATs met at West End today for the “Cats in Conversation” 7 women with a connected passion for arts and health/wellbeing...with lively banter and passion we have made a collective decision to continue to meet under the name of “BrizCATs”: and that we can spread the news of gatherings through our own networks. All creative arts therapists/practitioners welcome.
Our next gatherings are set for
  • 16th July with Amanda and Cate as facilitators
  • 3rd September with Meran and Fleur
More info will be sent via email to the group as it comes to hand.

Welcome BrizCATs

Welcome BrizCATs this blog is for Creative Arts Therapists and Practitioners in the Brisbane and surrounding districts. A place to share ideas, to network, to find links and resources that may be of use as we spread our creative wings amongst our Brisbane and wider communities.

BrizCATs are creative arts thearpists and practioners who use a multi-modal, experiential arts approach to the exploration of meanings and the choices for action. This form of inquiry is based in respect, compassion, and commitment to the search for ways of living that support the flourishing of indiviudals in relationship to each other and their world.
